DESIGNWALL

The Designers part two of a four-part inside series – simpatico • The great influencer David Clark stated in part one: “A substantial culture makes its own things. It’s important for our sense of ourselves.” Taking this as a starting point, part two looks at the identity being etched by some of our finest furniture designers.

Switched on • Articolo is an Australian lighting design studio that is making its mark on the world of fine product design. With Nicci Green at the helm, the pendant lights, lamps and wall sconces she creates can be found, specified and bought across Europe, the UK and the US. From humble beginnings it’s clear to see that success is here to stay.

Michele De Lucchi-articulating the grid • As a founding member of the Memphis Group, architect, designer, philosopher and freethinker Michele De Lucchi’s gorgeous creations have been at the design forefront since the Memphis Group made its debut launch at Salone del Mobile of Milan in 1981.

At Home Bianca Hung, director Hayball • insideco-editor Jan Henderson knocks on the door of Bianca Hung’s charming home and is given the guided tour of an interior that is refined and perfect for a life filled with design.

Mars — a new design reality • Not content to design only for the here and now, HASSELL’s Xavier De Kestelier, head of Design Technology and Innovation, and his team entered a competition devised by NASA to present a world for life and living on Mars. The entry shows a new way of design thinking for our future and perhaps one day could become a blueprint for habitation in another world.

Design Nation: a focus on Zeitraum at Salone del Mobile • Celebrating its 10th year at Salone del Mobile Milano, German brand Zeitraum launched two new design series. Design Nation presents the new collections.

Sonar: a new generation • Architect Patricia Urquiola has again collaborated with Laufen to design the third generation of products using its revolutionary ceramic material, SaphirKeramik.

Pure gold • Underwritten by an elegant cohesion, the sprawling expanse that is the Snaidero Sydney showroom, exemplifies the design acumen of Greg Natale, as inside co-editor Gillian Serisier discovers.

A phoenix arises • The latest project from Cumulus Studio in Tasmania presents the best of both the old and the new in a design for a boutique hotel that offers every modern comfort within a Heritage overlay.

Vineyard dreaming • Conceived as having one foot in the boardroom and the other in the vineyard, Carr’s design for Treasury Wine Estates brings the vineyard to Collins Street.

Top Class • High in the sky at 101 Collins Street in Melbourne, Boston Consulting Group is enjoying its new workplace created by Bates Smart as insideco-editor Jan Henderson discovers.

Divine detail • Michelle Bailey explores the latest residential project from Marc&Co and finds a home that has been renovated with care and a design...
